July 6 (Thursday) Edward King matriculates at University of Cambridge (Matriculation Book, unnumbered pages). 7 Easter Term at Cambridge ends. 26/5 August Tilly captures Gottingen. 1626 29 August In this month JM's father collects Mrs Rose Downer's money from Sir Francis Leigh and reinvests it with Sir Fulke Greville (PRO C2 Charles I/D39 /47); see June 1628.

March 2 (Monday) The House of Commons passes resolutions deploring religious innovators (Le. Laudian bishops) and supporters of the King's tax on tonnage and poundage. The Speaker is ordered by the King to dissolve the House, but is held down while the resolutions are read and passed. The King dissolves Parliament, which does not meet again until 13 April 1640. 15 JM's nephew John Phillips, son of Edward and Anne, is buried (parish Register, St Martin in the Fields).
